Losing slides from a large carousel when you save is usually PHP rejecting the request because Max Input Vars is too low.
If the navigation arrows or dot indicators do not appear, check the General settings where they can be turned off.
Empty slides on a Posts-source carousel usually mean the post or product has no featured image set.
